The disease manifests with jaundice, hepatomegaly, and systemic symptoms such as fever and malaise. It represents a critical stage in the spectrum of alcohol-related liver disease and significantly increases the risk of progression to cirrhosis and liver failure. Histologically, it shows ballooned hepatocytes, Mallory-Denk bodies, and pericellular fibrosis. The condition is clinically significant due to its high morbidity and mortality, especially in severe cases.
