This condition is clinically significant due to its strong association with an increased risk of gallbladder adenocarcinoma, making it a premalignant state. It is more common in middle-aged to elderly women and often presents with a history of recurrent biliary colic or chronic right upper quadrant discomfort. The calcification can be partial or complete and may be detected incidentally on imaging. The presence of a porcelain gallbladder warrants careful evaluation due to its malignant potential.
